Gas boiler and gas appliance safety
DANGER: unsafe gas appliances can kill!
Unsafe gas appliances can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning. Make sure your gas appliances have an annual service and gas safety check. Fit an audible carbon monoxide detector and test it regularly.
What should you do if you smell gas?
Open all doors and windows. Shut off the gas supply.
Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include headaches, nausea, dizziness, breathlessness, collapse and lost consciousness. Seek medical help if you suspect carbon monoxide poisoning.
Don't use the appliance until it has been checked by a Gas Safe engineer. If you have any concerns about your boiler or gas appliance, contact a Gas Safe registered company (it is not a DIY job, leave it to the professionals!).
